Flu Season

Seeing that flu season has arrived, we have decided to keep Julianna at home. The only time she is going out is to doctors appointments or if we are just taking a ride. It may sound ridiculous that we are being over cautious, but with the rise in the swine flu and no vaccine available at the moment for it and since she can't get a flu shot until she is 6 months old, we are playing it safe.

So we have signs all over the house about washing your hands and all of us will have a flu shot by the end of the week. No one is able to come to the house if they are even the slightest bit sick and we are still debating if we will allow anyone to visit who has not had a flu shot. I'm sure people think I'm nuts, but I'm protecting my child as the flu can be very serious in little ones. Next year at this time, I probably wont worry so much because she will be so much older, but right now her immune system is still very young and I would rather not test it out.

So, if you want to see us, please do not come while you are even the slightest bit sick. Be ready to wash your hands when you arrive. And please get a flu shot.

Sounds reasonable to me under the 'better to be safe than sorry' theory. Esp. since you are prefacing everything with "I know this is crazy, but..."

You should make a laugh of it and do a quick Purell spritz of everyone that enters! (though don't be surprised if they spritz you back!)

also... dont forget to take care of yourself! Lou had "mild" swine flu a few weeks ago and he said it was the sickest he'd been in memory...
